Phata Byung Hydroelectric Project

The Phata Byung Hydroelectric Project on the Mandakini River in Uttarakhand features a 26 m high concrete gravity dam with 520 m submergence length and 76 MW installed capacity. Encardio Rite provided supply and installation of safety monitoring instrumentation including foundation piezometers, automatic water level recorders, pressure cells, biaxial tilt meters, joint meters, standpipe piezometers, automatic weather station, and data acquisition systems for comprehensive dam safety monitoring.

Phata Byung Hydroelectric Project

The Phata Byung Hydroelectric Project is a run-of-river project located on the cascade of the Mandakini River, a major tributary of the Alakananda River, Uttarakhand, India. The purpose of the project is to divert the water for the generation of electricity.

The project activity includes civil structures such as a concrete dam and other infrastructure.

The project comprises a 26 m high concrete gravity dam with a submergence length of 520 m, an underground powerhouse, intake structures, a water-conducting system, an underground powerhouse, a 9.38 km headrace tunnel, tailrace tunnel. The project is located about 10.20 km downstream on the right bank of the Mandakini River near Byung village. The installed capacity of the powerhouse is 76 MW.
