Loharinagpala Hydroelectric Power Project

Loharinagpala Hydroelectric Power Project on Bhagirathi River in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand features a 15 m high, 115 m long weir dam with 600 MW capacity. Encardio Rite provided supply and installation of safety monitoring instruments, including piezometers, anchor bolt load cells, strain meters, joint meters, temperature meters, borehole extensometers (mechanical and electrical), tape extensometers, plumb lines, and portable readout units to ensure continuous, reliable structural health monitoring and dam safety.

Loharinagpala Hydroelectric Power Project

The Loharinagpala hydropower project starts from the Songad river is located on the river Bhagirathi in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Loharinagpala is a weir-type of dam. The height and length of the dam are 15 m and 115 m, respectively. The total capacity of the dam is 190,320 cubic meters. The output capacity of the dam is 600 MW, i.e, (150 MW ×40).

Encardio-rite was awarded the sub-contract for the supply as well as installation of safety monitoring instrumentation for the project. The instrumentation included:

  • Piezometer
  • Anchor bolt load cell
  • Strain meter – rosette with no stress strainmeter
  • Joint meters
  • Temperature meter
  • Borehole extensometer – multipoint electrical and mechanical 
  • Tape extensometer
  • Plumbline – normal and inverted
  • Portable readout units
